69:3 (Y. Ali) And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?
69:3 (Picktall) Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is!

69:4 (Y. Ali) The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!
69:4 (Picktall) (The tribes of) Thamud and Aad disbelieved in the judgment to come.

69:5 (Y. Ali) But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!
69:5 (Picktall) As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning.

69:6 (Y. Ali) And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;
69:6 (Picktall) And as for Aad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,

69:7 (Y. Ali) He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!
69:7 (Picktall) Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

69:8 (Picktall) Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them?

69:9 (Y. Ali) And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.
69:9 (Picktall) And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,

69:10 (Y. Ali) And disobeyed (each) the apostle of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.
69:10 (Picktall) And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.

69:11 (Y. Ali) We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),
69:11 (Picktall) Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship

69:12 (Y. Ali) That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.
69:12 (Picktall) That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.

69:13 (Y. Ali) Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet,
69:13 (Picktall) And when the trumpet shall sound one blast

69:14 (Y. Ali) And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,-
69:14 (Picktall) And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,

69:15 (Picktall) Then, on that day will the Event befall.

69:16 (Y. Ali) And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,
69:16 (Picktall) And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.

69:17 (Y. Ali) And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.
69:17 (Picktall) And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of their Lord that day, above them.

69:18 (Y. Ali) That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.
69:18 (Picktall) On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.

69:19 (Y. Ali) Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!
69:19 (Picktall) Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!

69:20 (Picktall) Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.

69:24 (Y. Ali) "Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"
69:24 (Picktall) (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.

69:25 (Y. Ali) And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me!
69:25 (Picktall) But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book

69:26 (Y. Ali) "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)!
69:26 (Picktall) And knew not what my reckoning!

69:27 (Y. Ali) "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me!
69:27 (Picktall) Oh, would that it had been death!

69:28 (Y. Ali) "Of no profit to me has been my wealth!
69:28 (Picktall) My wealth hath not availed me,

69:30 (Y. Ali) (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,
69:30 (Picktall) (It will be said): Take him and fetter him

69:31 (Y. Ali) "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire.
69:31 (Picktall) And then expose him to hell fire

69:32 (Y. Ali) "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!
69:32 (Picktall) And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.

69:33 (Y. Ali) "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High.
69:33 (Picktall) Lo! he used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous,

69:34 (Y. Ali) "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent!
69:34 (Picktall) And urged not on the feeding of the wretched,

69:35 (Y. Ali) "So no friend hath he here this Day.
69:35 (Picktall) Therefor hath he no lover here this day,

69:36 (Y. Ali) "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,
69:36 (Picktall) Nor any food save filth

69:37 (Y. Ali) "Which none do eat but those in sin."
69:37 (Picktall) Which none but sinners eat.

69:38 (Y. Ali) So I do call to witness what ye see,
69:38 (Picktall) But nay! I swear by all that ye see

69:40 (Y. Ali) That this is verily the word of an honoured apostle;
69:40 (Picktall) That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.

69:41 (Y. Ali) It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!
69:41 (Picktall) It is not poet's speech--little is it that ye believe!

69:42 (Y. Ali) Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.
69:42 (Picktall) Nor diviner's speech--little is it that ye remember!

69:43 (Y. Ali) (This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds.
69:43 (Picktall) It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

69:44 (Y. Ali) And if the apostle were to invent any sayings in Our name,
69:44 (Picktall) And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,

69:45 (Y. Ali) We should certainly seize him by his right hand,
69:45 (Picktall) We assuredly had taken him by the right hand

69:46 (Y. Ali) And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:
69:46 (Picktall) And then severed his life artery,

69:47 (Y. Ali) Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath).
69:47 (Picktall) And not one of you could have held Us off from him.

69:48 (Y. Ali) But verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing.
69:48 (Picktall) And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil).

69:49 (Y. Ali) And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).
69:49 (Picktall) And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it).

69:50 (Y. Ali) But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.
69:50 (Picktall) And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers.

69:51 (Y. Ali) But verily it is Truth of assured certainty.
69:51 (Picktall) And lo! it is absolute truth.

69:52 (Y. Ali) So glorify the name of thy Lord Most High.
69:52 (Picktall) So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord.
